Cancer Survivor and National Queen, Miriam Smith Wilson

Miriam, Ms. Forever Fresh Face USA 2021 is a mother and grandmother who is very active in her service to others. She had a career in delivery services and customer relations for almost three decades prior to her recent retirement to focus on her family. She loves writing, reading, creating things and being with loved ones. Her pageant platform is advocating for better resources for those suffering from chronic illnesses. Her granddaughter Jenesis is the Junior Miss Fresh Face 2021 and is passionate about the arts and being a good supporter to her community and family.

Why do you do what you do?
I love to empower people and uplift them when they are suffering. This is very important because when people are hurting, regardless of if they are a custodian or a CEO, they all are entitled to being consoled and comforted. I truly believe that all blessings are God-given and not man-made so I try to be a light in others’ lives.

What are some projects you are currently working on?
My main project right now is organizing and promoting my upcoming annual Gastroparesis Walk that will be held this summer! The walk offers free drinks, snacks and goodie bags to all who participate and even has a raffle for prize baskets that I make myself in exchange for donations that I give to the national foundation.

What are your goals for the short-term and long-term ?
My main project right now is having a successful Gastroparesis Walk and finishing my reign as a national titleholder queen strong! Long term I want to eventually open a nonprofit organization that can provide resources for those suffering with chronic illnesses and give back to the community at the highest level possible.

Who or what inspires you?
My late daughter, Mekia, really inspired me throughout her life being such a strong woman fighting her illness and trying to be the best mother, daughter and friend she could.

If you could change anything about the world, what would it be?
I would eliminate all the hatred in the world at the root of so much violence, discrimination and abuse. I would replace it with kindness and love.

What do you plan to do once you cross the millionaire mark?
Firstly, I would provide my granddaughter with the best life possible and give her everything she wants and needs. Secondly, I would open my charity and invest funding into it so that we could provide the best resources we could. But, regardless of my financial status, I will always remain humble and never think I’m better than others.
